A still life with flowers

This July, I am returning to Eggington House for a fun day of floral styling and photography with Leigh Chappell flowers.

Set in the heart of the Bedfordshire countryside, Eggington House was built in 1696 and we are really excited to enjoy a day of floral escapism, photography and scene styling in a building so full of history and rich in heritage.

Inspired by the still life paintings of the Dutch Golden Age, we will each create a floral centrepiece using seasonal flowers and foliage in the style of the old masters, exploring the lighting and props that make up the mood and style of the period. Books, botanical elements, shells, fruits are all significant when recreating a Dutch master and of course the incredible use of light. We will explore how we can use natural light to create beautiful and striking imagery and talk through editing methods and apps to make your arrangement really standout.

Using seasonal flowers, Leigh will guide you through making your very own foam free, floral arrangement. We will then explore the styling, backdrops and props that will elevate your arrangement in to a piece of floral art. We will look at photography using both light and dark backdrops in different areas of the house and garden.

Our host Suzie will serve us a delicious home cooked lunch on the lawn and talk about the history of the house. There will be plenty of social media chat throughout the day and ideas on posting times, hashtags and what works well on Instagram.

You will need to bring your own camera or phone to photograph your work. All flowers and equipment will be provided. The class size will be limited so there will be plenty of time for 1-1 and Q&A’s.
