Hi, I’m Janne, a floral photographer. I have a degree in Textile and Fashion design from Kingston University followed by 10 year career in the fashion industry. My passion for colour, texture and movement is transferred to my garden led floral designs. I’m a self taught photographer who only uses natural light to tell the story of floral seasonality through my imagery.
Creating a flower portrait using only light and shadow ensures my imagery is always in tune with the seasons. I love nothing more than the daily wander around the garden and the challenge of creating something from what is available giving each image a sense of place. In winter there can be very little available, but this is often when I feel most creative. I love gardening and grow flowers that I like to photograph. I’ve been incredibly lucky to learn from some of the UKs leading Farmer Florists and Floral Designers. My designs have a natural garden led aesthetic and I’m always inspired by the day-to-day changes in nature and light as the seasons evolve.
I’m happiest when creating my floral scenes, but on the blog I post the collaborations I’m working on, news on workshops and share what I do, how I photograph my work and what inspires me to create my imagery. Creating and photographing a still life, using what is available naturally or foraged locally just for the sheer joy of creating is one of my favourite things to do.
I’ve worked with David Austin Wedding Roses and The Real Flower company and have created imagery for countless florists. I run workshops sharing my knowledge on capturing eye catching floral imagery. I’m one of the curators of The Strawberry Hill House flower festival showcasing the beauty of British Flowers and sustainability within the floral industry. I live with my husband and two cats near Thirsk, North Yorkshire where our old Georgian farmhouse and garden are a constant work in progress.
