A celebration of Spring

Happy new year everyone! As soon as January arrives I can’t help but look for little signs that Spring is on the horizon. The days slowly stretch out and as those tiny green spears start to poke through the earth my thoughts turn to all the beauty that will emerge in the weeks to come. The pre-Christmas dash to plant out all the spring bulbs, will soon be rewarded with a riot of colour and glorious combinations of yellows, reds and blues that I wouldn’t put together any other time of the year. Yet, they work so well in Spring.

Tulip Workshop

I’m excited to announce my first floral photography workshop of the year will be held in April in Lincolnshire with floral designer and gardener Claire Sutton @figandfernfloral There is nothing lovelier then a hands on workshop with like minded creatives sharing what we love with a slice of cake or two. This is for a small group so that everyone will have the opportunity to spend time with myself or Claire.

Claire is an experienced florist with a whimsical and natural style living in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds near the pretty market town of Louth. Her garden studio and home are surrounded by farmland which is an inspiring venue to host a workshop. You will each create a bouquet brimming with tulips and complimentary fillers and accent flowers. There will be a selection of beautiful natural dyed ribbons from @Bertieand Fred to choose from too. Together we’ll discuss the importance of seasonality and creating with ingredients available locally throughout the British flower season.

This is a one day workshop where you will create a Spring bouquet with Claire’s guidance, using locally sourced tulips. After lunch, you will spend the afternoon photographing your arrangement. There are many picturesque backdrops throughout Claire’s garden to compliment your lovely bouquet. I’ll share my knowledge of camera settings for outdoor and indoor shots and guide you through image making for your social media and website. Visual media platforms are saturated with floral photography so I will share my experience of creating standout images. Together, we will explore natural light and composition to create a unique visual floral story. Above all, this will be a true celebration of the tulip which is one of my favourite flowers to photograph.
